Promoting social entrepreneurship for clean drinking water in Nepal
The aim of the project is to test a model of social entrepreneurship in practice, in which both schools and private households gain access to safe drinking water. In Nepal, water from the tap or from wells is often contaminated by micro-organisms, and in the project area also by arsenic, which cannot be removed with conventional filters and leads to serious health problems. This is why an innovative filter technology developed at ETH Zurich is being used.
Cooperation with local small businesses and schools
Large filter systems are installed and maintained at schools by small local companies; smaller units are to be sold for private households. These two sales channels strengthen each other and create synergies. Agreements are negotiated with the project schools to ensure that these systems are also maintained and serviced in the long term, thus providing more than 4,000 pupils with clean drinking water in the long term
